By: Zdenko Kahlina
With Bernhard Kohl initially taking third overall in the last year’s Tour de France, this year’s Tour of Austria should have been set for some very rosy media coverage. The sport there was on a high following the Gerolsteiner rider’s unexpectedly good performance. Since than, however, things have certainly not gone to plan.
Scandals together with the tough economic climate, at one point put the 2009 edition of the race under threat. Now that it has been confirmed that the race will take place, the Tour of Austria’s organizers hope July’s event will turn the spotlight back on the sporting side of things.
Recent editions have featured the grueling Kitzbuhlerhorn, which will once again be a central part of the route for the 2. HC event.
