VELOCITY CYCLING CLUB ORGANIZING THIS SEPTEMBER
Sunday September 20th
To close the season – Harvest ride
Where: Ardrossan Hall (back to the original location)
It was not ideal day for cycling. Overcast, temperatures down to only 13 degrees in the morning, and westerly wind blowing at up to 30 km/h. But for a group of cyclists from many Edmonton cycling clubs, this was not the reason to stay at home under the warm blanket.
Each September “Velocity” members organize training ride to mark the end of the season. This event is called “Harvest ride” and is open to everyone. This year the ride was on Sunday, September 20.
This tandem was latter “flying” over the course… amazing!
Start of the bigger group… ready for the 100 km ride!
There were two routes available (65km & 100km). Both groups departed from the old Ardrossan community hall shortly after 10:00am. Cost was $5.00 per person which includes the lunch after the ride.
Average speed was very high for this time of a year. But nobody was complaining, it appears speed is in cyclist blood.
“Did you get my better side?”, was the question here… the spirits were high.
With a long history of promoting the sport of cycling in Edmonton, Velocity Cycling Club offers a variety of rides for cyclists of all abilities. In addition to weekly club rides in and around the Edmonton area (50 to 100 km in length), members can participate in various skills camps and training sessions held throughout the year.
At the end we can say it was complete success. Congratulations to the members of Velocity cycling club from Edmonton and everyone who was brave enough to show for the ride under this weather conditions. See you again next year… same place same route!
