Driving from Oaxaca to Huatulco (Hwy 175)

By: Zdenko Kahlina

If you’re not travelling, you’re not living!
It was time to hit the road again. We were ready to move on, after two very busy days in Oaxaca (see my previous blog). After some thought about which road to use, we finally decided to use highway 175 from Oaxaca City and drive across the mountains to our destination Huatulco. This road is also called the “vomit” road. Soon we’ll discover why… lol!

Retro Cycling legends

‘Edmonton’s Italian Mafia’

Once upon a time there was a group of cyclists in Edmonton which was called ‘Edmonton’s Italian Mafia’, or sometimes they would be called ‘Nino, Gino, Rino, Lino and Jim’s group’. Later in the 80’s and 90’s  Rino Ongaro and his four sons Rudy, Ross, Alex and Paolo, used to be called ‘Ongaro’s clan’… but no matter how they were called, one of them was always member of each of these groups. His name is Rino Ongaro.

‘What the Hell Is Zdenko’s Corner?’
Keeping track of my 500+ blogs and stories, emailing my contributors, designing graphics, editing stories and answering emails/comments from my growing readership of 20,000+ monthly loyal fans – while at the same time maintaining regular job, family and bike riding, it’s sometimes too easy to get stuck in the trenches.

Edmonton heritage

Historic Hostelry
I heard people say: ‘If you see this hotel in your sights, run the other directions!’ I agree this place is a total dump. It stinks with spilled brews, totally unclean and serves too many risky patrons. I was terrified of this place, but it was declared a Historical Site and nothing could be done through the years to convince the Transit Management to make improvements.

The greatest bike racer in history won’t stop motivating me.
One Monday morning last month I went to my friendly neighborhood in Austin, Texas, and discovered that it had been transformed into a Lance Armstrong shrine.

Christmas in Edmonton

Edmonton tradition to decorate houses
It is traditions that at Christmas time people in Edmonton decorate their Christmas trees, interiors of the house as well as the exterior of their houses too. But some people really get into it and go step further than the rest of us. Here is one example house.
