Travel USA

Why Try America?
Even though I’ve expatriated myself to Croatia, I am still an American. And despite my frequent negativity about the US, there are lot of things I love and miss about my native land. Much of this is tainted by Diasporic nostalgia and aging.

40th Anniversary: 1974 – 2014 (April 27)

Ruby Wedding Anniversary “Speech”
I’ve volunteered to say ‘a few words’ for this occasion and the only way I know how to do this, was to create a new blog on my web site! However, to cram 40 years into ‘a few words’ proved too much of a tall order and I’m afraid I’ve used a few more than a few in this speech, so please bear with me…

Travel Costa Rica

Have bike, will travel… Zdenko hits the road in Costa Rica!
This year we went to visit Costa Rica for the first time. Visiting Costa Rica is like nowhere else in the tropical Americas. I had an awesome road biking holiday there in a vibrant and fertile Central American paradise, blessed with a pleasant and hot tropical climate and an abundance of natural beauty.

Off the beaten path in Costa Rica: Liberia’s Fiestas Civicas
During our vacation in Costa Rica, to my utter joy Vera and I stumbled upon the Horse Parade in Liberia, Costa Rica. I always loved horses and to be able to watch them in a parade was awesome! At least 200 horses (and riders) were in attendance. These horses and their pretty rancheras gave me goose bumps!

Leisure cycling

I want to ride my bicycle (in Edmonton)
You would think by now we would have figured out how to accommodate cyclists in this city in a way that encourages bicycle commuting and keeps cyclists safe. But it would appear that a solution to the challenges faced by those of us who want to cycle to work or anyplace else is as elusive as finding ways to keep our streets clean in winter and free from potholes in the spring.

Pura Vida, Costa Rica – Three weeks of Costa Rica!
The tranquil beach of Ocotal is situated in Costa Rica’s stunning Guanacaste province on the northern Pacific coast. It was perfect place to spend three weeks in warm climate and escape -30 degrees temperatures in Canada. I should also mention I was there in March, with FOUR beautiful ladies who really took good care of me!!

Life in Edmonton

Driving in Edmonton
Don’t drive here if you don’t have to. Edmonton and Calgary have the worst vehicle accident rates in the country. There are many explanations, but it all boils down to – people here are very bad drivers. This blog is meant to be a warning for the Edmonton tourists and visitors.
