JUNGFRAUJOCH – THE TOP OF EUROPE

Traveling Swiss Alps

By: Zdenko Kahlina

Destination: Top of Europe
On our summer holidays several years ago, during our stay in Basel Switzerland, we spent one day visiting Switzerland’s most popular (and expensive) mountain railway excursion to the top of the Europe. The Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe is the highlight of any Swiss holiday. The highest railway station in Europe is located 3,454 metres above sea level. The visitors gain access to a high-Alpine wonderland of ice, snow and rock, which they can admire from the viewing platforms on the Aletsch Glacier or in the Ice Palace.

The newlyweds Sam & Neven decided to make their honeymoon trip traveling through the Europe this year. Before they left, I asked them to keep a diary, so that I can create a blog and post it on my web page. They did an excellent job, and I am happy to post their diary as it was written by them. It’s a bit long but it is worth reading as they experienced some unbelievable events and visited some incredible sites.

Race stories and more…
We used to race together, travel together and share the pain together. Sometimes it was wet and cold, the speed was high and our faces were covered with dirt. And yet we understood each other without a spoken word; we played our team tactics to perfection and one of us beat our competition at the finish line. Much later we forgot which race we won, or who had won it, but what we went thru will always stay in our minds. Race stories… even 30 years later we still remember them!
